Asus Dominates Egypt’s Laptop Market with Nearly 40% Share
Asus holds nearly 40% of Egypt’s laptop market share, with growing demand due to increased online gaming. Upcoming SCAR series laptops feature cutting-edge technology. Competition calls for higher-specification models from Taiwanese brands, as investments in the market grow, indicating promising prospects.
Asus laptops capture nearly 40% of Egypt’s laptop market, according to a report from German market research firm GfK which stated that approximately 500,000 laptops were sold last year. Following Asus are Lenovo and HP in market share.
Kung Huan-tse, Asus’s product manager for Egypt, attributed the company’s success to the growing number of online gamers during the pandemic, noting that the Republic of Gamers Strix SCAR series has gained popularity among local consumers due to its gaming features.
The SCAR series laptops set to release this year will feature advanced graphics cards, processors, improved cooling systems, and ease of component removal, appealing to the demands of gamers. The laptops began pre-sales in late February, expected to benefit from the anticipated upgrade wave post-pandemic.
Kung noted that young consumers in Egypt prefer laptops that merge productivity and gaming potential, with Asus’s gaming sales rising to over 50% of its total laptop sales in the country since last year.
Scully Wang from the Taiwan External Trade Development Council mentioned that monthly Taiwanese laptop sales in the Middle East exceed those in Egypt by more than ten times, highlighting the need for higher-specification models to maintain competitiveness.
Micro-Star International Company recognizes Egypt’s potential market due to its youth demographic and has bolstered its investments there, including enhanced marketing and repair services.
Asus CEO Samson Hu predicts a 30% increase in the company’s global personal computer revenue for the second quarter, attributing this growth to an impending demand for upgrades as more AI-capable PCs emerge and Windows 10 approaches end-of-support in October.
Asus has successfully established a dominant presence in Egypt’s laptop market, driven by the rise of online gaming and evolving consumer preferences. Their innovative product features, particularly in the SCAR series, cater to young consumers seeking balance in productivity and gaming. The competitive landscape requires Taiwanese brands to introduce advanced models, while the promising market prospects have prompted increased investments from stakeholders like Micro-Star International. Furthermore, anticipated hardware upgrades are expected to fuel revenue growth in the coming months.
