Investigation Updates on the Disappearance of Sudiksha Konanki in the Dominican Republic
The search for 20-year-old Sudiksha Konanki, who disappeared in the Dominican Republic, has identified a person of interest, Joshua Riibe, though no charges have been filed. Konanki was last seen on March 6 during a beach walk. Authorities are conducting extensive searches and investigations, including collaboration with the FBI and the Indian Embassy.
A 24-year-old man, Joshua Riibe, has been identified as a “person of interest” in the investigation into the disappearance of Sudiksha Konanki, a 20-year-old University of Pittsburgh junior. According to Thomas Julia of the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, no charges have been filed against Riibe at this time. Konanki, who vanished during a spring break trip on Thursday, March 6, was last seen while walking on a beach in the Dominican Republic.
Sudiksha Konanki, originally from India and a resident of Loudoun County, Virginia, was traveling with five other female students from Pittsburgh when she disappeared from the Riu Republica Resort in Punta Cana. The police confirmed that the last sighting of Konanki occurred on video surveillance footage around 4:15 a.m. that day, leading into a beach area with the group.
After the group dispersed, witnesses reported that Konanki was left on the beach with one individual. Reports indicate that Konanki might have been caught in a wave while swimming, contributing to speculation about a potential drowning; however, local authorities have cautioned against this assumption, affirming there is no current evidence supporting that theory.
Search efforts continue to locate Konanki, employing extensive resources including drones, helicopters, divers, and canine units. Meanwhile, her friends have been cooperative with investigations, though no additional suspects are believed to be involved besides them and Riibe. Both the FBI and the Indian Embassy are involved in supporting the ongoing search and inquiry.
The investigation into Sudiksha Konanki’s disappearance remains active, with Joshua Riibe designated as a person of interest. Current evidence leads to the absence of confirmation regarding a drowning, while search operations are being conducted rigorously. Authorities are working collaboratively with international partners to ascertain the circumstances of her disappearance and to locate her promptly.
