Investigation Underway in Sudiksha Konanki’s Disappearance from Punta Cana

Sudiksha Konanki, a University of Pittsburgh student, went missing on March 6 while on vacation in the Dominican Republic. She made two Venmo payments prior to her disappearance, and Joshua Riibe has been identified as a person of interest. Investigations are ongoing as authorities seek to understand the circumstances.

Sudiksha Konanki, a 20-year-old University of Pittsburgh student and Indian citizen, was last seen on March 6 at the Riu Republic Resort in Punta Cana during her spring break. Her disappearance occurred shortly after she made two Venmo payments on the same afternoon, with the first transaction at 2:54 PM, including a sailboat emoji in the description, and the second payment referencing the popular nightclub, Coco Bongo, suggesting her interest in local activities.

The investigation into Sudiksha’s disappearance has identified 24-year-old Joshua Riibe as a person of interest. He was reportedly seen with Konanki just prior to her going missing. While federal law enforcement agencies and local authorities are collaborating on the case, it has been confirmed that Riibe is not considered a suspect at this time, as stated by the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson, Chad Quinn.

Konanki’s father has urged local authorities to expand their investigation efforts. Meanwhile, the University of Pittsburgh continues to offer support to the Konanki family and remains in regular contact with them and law enforcement. Dominican Republic President Luis Abinader conveyed that the last known person with Sudiksha mentioned that they encountered a wave while on the beach, but details surrounding her disappearance remain unclear, with investigators yet to find any of her belongings.

The case of Sudiksha Konanki remains a developing situation, with significant focus on her last known activities and the identified person of interest. The collaboration between U.S. and Dominican authorities is crucial in attempting to uncover the circumstances surrounding her disappearance. Family support and community engagement are evident as the investigation progresses.
