Water Exercises: An Effective Method for Safe Weight Loss and Fat Burning
A study reveals that specific water exercises can facilitate significant weight loss, with participants losing an average of 3.175 kg in ten weeks. A recent study highlights the effectiveness of specific water exercises for weight loss, indicating that individuals may lose approximately 3.175 kg within a span of ten weeks. Engaging in various water activities, such as Zumba, yoga, and water running, can facilitate weight loss as well as decrease waist circumference by 3 cm, as reported by “Russia Today.”
The key advantage of performing these exercises in water is the added resistance, which not only boosts calorie burning but also promotes overall weight loss. Moreover, water activities alleviate stress on joints like the knees and ankles, thereby reducing injury risk, particularly for those who are overweight.
The research team from universities in Korea and China monitored nearly 300 participants aged 20 to 70, focusing on the effectiveness of underwater exercises, especially for women over the age of 45. This comprehensive study integrated results from ten clinical trials across several countries, including Malaysia, Brazil, India, the United States, and the Netherlands, to evaluate the impact of water workouts on weight management.
Participants in the study, who were either overweight or obese, underwent a water fitness program lasting from six to twelve weeks, participating in 2-3 sessions weekly. Results indicated that participants lost an average of 2 kg in under ten weeks, while those engaging in the exercises for ten weeks or longer experienced an average loss of 3 kg.
Dr. Jongchul Park, a researcher at Pukyong University in Korea, noted that further investigation is warranted to determine if underwater exercises are indeed more efficient than land-based alternatives. A previous study from Poland in 2017 found that overweight women lost an average of 3.4 kg over six months with underwater exercise.
The study underscores the promising potential of water exercises as a safe and effective weight loss method, particularly for individuals who are overweight or have joint issues. With participants exhibiting significant weight loss and reductions in waist size, water-based fitness programs provide a viable option, especially for older women. However, continued research is necessary to compare the effectiveness of these exercises against traditional land-based workouts.
