The Entente center currently shelters approximately 400 households, all evacuated from Sangane village, which was inundated by floodwaters resulting from Cyclone Jude early last week. The cyclone has severely impacted about 100,000 individuals, with confirmed fatalities reaching 14. President Chapo remarked, “I am here because Nampula was the province that suffered most from the cyclone, and so I came to show my solidarity.”

During his visit, President Chapo commended the efforts of the National Disaster Management Institute (INGD) and local disaster management committees, which have effectively minimized the death toll. He also assessed the condition of roads that Cyclone Jude had rendered impassable. Chapo inspected the damage to a crucial 200-meter bridge over the Monapo River in Meconta district, which is vital for the country’s main north-south highway (EN1). The President stated that contractors have been mobilized to begin necessary repairs, asserting, “I thought I should come here to see the damage for myself. The damage to the roads is enormous.”
