Toyota Dominates Stolen Vehicle Statistics in Kenya for 2024

In 2024, Toyota vehicles represented 54.91% of all stolen vehicles in Kenya, according to a report by the Association of Kenyan Insurers. Other brands such as Isuzu, Mazda, Nissan, and Mitsubishi are also frequently targeted. Overall, vehicle thefts decreased by 28% from the previous year, with a total of 327 incidents recorded.

A recent report from the Association of Kenyan Insurers (AKI) has revealed that Toyota is the most frequently stolen vehicle brand in Kenya. The report analyzed data from January 1, 2024, to December 31, 2024, where it was found that 54.91 percent of all reported stolen vehicles were Toyotas.

In addition to Toyota, the report highlighted other brands that are also targeted by thieves. Isuzu accounted for 12.88 percent of thefts, followed by Mazda at 7.06 percent, Nissan at 5.83 percent, and Mitsubishi at 3.99 percent.

Despite the prevalence of vehicle theft, the report indicates a positive trend in terms of overall vehicle security. A total of 327 motor vehicles were reported stolen in 2024, indicating a significant 28 percent decrease from the 419 thefts recorded in 2023.

The findings presented by the Association of Kenyan Insurers illustrate that Toyota vehicles are disproportionately targeted by thieves in Kenya, comprising nearly 55 percent of stolen vehicles in 2024. Nevertheless, there is a promising decline in the overall rate of vehicle theft, suggesting improved security measures may be taking effect.
