Joshua Riibe Demands Release Amid Investigation into Sudiksha Konanki’s Disappearance
Joshua Riibe, identified as a person of interest in Sudiksha Konanki’s disappearance, has demanded to be released from detention in the Dominican Republic, asserting he cannot be held without charges. With extensive law enforcement involvement in the search, a hearing on his habeas corpus motion is forthcoming, which may impact his current status.
Joshua Riibe, who is regarded as a person of interest in the disappearance of Sudiksha Konanki, has issued an ultimatum to law enforcement in the Dominican Republic regarding his continued detention. His attorney, Beatriz Santana, filed a motion on March 17, stating that Riibe cannot be held without charges and demands his return home. While he has not been formally charged, authorities have seized his passport and placed him under police surveillance.
As the investigation marks its 11th day, Santana noted to ABC Eyewitness News that Riibe’s movements are restricted; he cannot leave his hotel without police accompaniment. A hearing regarding Santana’s habeas corpus motion is scheduled for 2 PM on March 18, according to Noticias SIN.
In this ongoing case, over 300 law enforcement professionals, including FBI agents and officials from the US Department of Homeland Security, are actively involved in the search for the missing 20-year-old student. Riibe, an Iowa resident and a senior at St. Cloud State University, reportedly has been in custody since shortly after Konanki vanished on March 6.
Authorities confirmed that Riibe continues to be interrogated at the National Police’s Gender Violence Unit as they seek further information about the incident. An official statement emphasized his importance in the investigation, indicating that he will remain in custody until deemed otherwise by the authorities.
In conclusion, Joshua Riibe, a person of interest in Sudiksha Konanki’s disappearance, has asserted that he should not be detained without formal charges. The case involves significant law enforcement resources, and Riibe remains under scrutiny while the investigation continues. The upcoming hearing may influence his status and the course of the ongoing inquiry.
