Kenyan President Celebrates Successful Conclusion of 2025 WRC Safari Rally

President William Ruto lauded the successful conclusion of the 2025 WRC Safari Rally, highlighting increased attendance and Kenya’s capability to host global events. The rally, featuring 21 stages and attracting tens of thousands of fans, was celebrated during a closing ceremony where top participants received awards. Negotiations to extend the Safari Rally contract are ongoing, ensuring its future in the WRC calendar.

Kenyan President William Ruto expressed appreciation for the safe conclusion of the 2025 World Rally Championship (WRC) Safari Rally held on March 23 in Naivasha. He acknowledged the contributions of both local and international attendees, emphasizing their role in making the event memorable during the closing ceremony, approximately 90 km northwest of Nairobi.

The 2025 Safari Rally saw increased spectator attendance compared to the last four editions since it resumed in 2021. Tens of thousands gathered along the routes and at the newly established Rally Village at Morendat Farm, enhancing the vibrancy of the event over the past four days.

Despite some traffic congestion experienced by fans traveling to Hell’s Gate National Park for the finale, President Ruto highlighted the significance of such events in showcasing Kenya’s capability to host premier global sporting competitions. He stated, “These activities are the fuel that powers the growth of our economy, and we are committed to continuing to support them.”

The President awarded prizes to the top finishers, including winner Elfyn Evans of Britain, runner-up Ott Tanak from Estonia, and third-place Thierry Neuville of Belgium. Additionally, Carl Tundo, who placed 15th, was recognized as the highest-ranking Kenyan competitor in the rally.

On the eve of the event’s conclusion, the Kenyan government and WRC Promoter announced discussions were underway to extend the Safari Rally’s contract within the global championship beyond 2026, following an agreement to prolong the original contract by one year.

This year’s rally featured 21 competitive stages, totaling a competitive distance of 384.86 kilometers, making it the longest segment in the 14-round 2025 WRC series.
