The Nigeria Police Force has announced the extradition of Benjamin Best Nnayereugo, known as “Killaboi,” from Doha, Qatar, following his escape from justice for the murder of Augusta Oseodion Onuwabhagbe. Nnayereugo was returned to Nigeria early on April 19, 2025, after being on the run since July 2023, when he allegedly took the life of the 21-year-old university student.
Legal representatives for the victim’s family had filed a petition on September 29, 2024, prompting an investigation led by INTERPOL NCB Abuja. The investigation unveiled that Nnayereugo had traveled through multiple countries before being located in Qatar, with cooperation from the Ministry of Justice, INTERPOL, and Qatari authorities aiding in his arrest.
Originally apprehended in Freetown, Sierra Leone, Nnayereugo escaped custody in November 2023, continuing to evade authorities while using forged identities across various regions. His identity was ultimately confirmed through international cooperation and advanced biometrics.
Inspector-General of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun commended the efforts of INTERPOL NCB Abuja in capturing the fugitive and expressed appreciation for the collaborative work of several entities, including the Nigerian Embassy in Qatar, in securing his extradition. He assured the public of the Nigeria Police Force’s dedication to justice and the forthcoming prosecution of Nnayereugo.
The extradition of Benjamin Best Nnayereugo signifies a vital step in the pursuit of justice for the murder of Augusta Oseodion Onuwabhagbe. This case emphasizes the importance of international cooperation in criminal investigations and the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to ensuring that fugitives are brought to justice.
