Prime Video Mexico Launches its Most Ambitious Production with ‘Every Minute Counts’
Prime Video Mexico has unveiled its most expensive production, the earthquake drama “Every Minute Counts,” at the Iberseries & Platino Industria conference. The series will utilize Unreal Engine technology, a first for the region, and highlights the significant historical event of the 1985 Mexico City earthquake.
At the recent Iberseries & Platino Industria conference in Madrid, Prime Video Mexico showcased its highest budget production to date: the earthquake drama titled “Every Minute Counts” (“Cada Minuto Cuenta”). This series focuses on the catastrophic earthquake that devastated Mexico City on September 19, 1985, and is notable for its use of Unreal Engine virtual screen technology, a first for both Mexico and Latin America. Alonso Aguilar, head of Mexico Originals at Amazon Studios, confirmed that while this technology has been utilized in smaller projects across the region, it has never been implemented at such a grand scale. Aguilar also mentioned that two additional projects, consisting of both a film and a series, are currently in production employing the same advanced 3D virtual technology originally developed by Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) and Epic Games. The production of “Every Minute Counts” involved a six-month pre-production phase followed by an additional six months of filming.
The earthquake that struck Mexico City in 1985 became a pivotal moment in the country’s history, causing immense destruction and loss of life. This backdrop provides the narrative foundation for Prime Video’s ambitious project, which seeks to dramatize the events of that day and its aftermath. By leveraging cutting-edge technology such as Unreal Engine, the series aims to enhance storytelling through advanced visual effects and immersive production techniques. This technological approach is becoming increasingly prevalent in the global entertainment landscape, particularly as streaming platforms seek to differentiate their offerings in a competitive market.
In summary, “Every Minute Counts” represents a significant milestone for Prime Video Mexico as it embarks on its most expensive production to date. Through the utilization of groundbreaking virtual screen technology, the series not only tells an important historical narrative but also sets a new standard for production quality in Latin America. As the series continues in its development, it exemplifies the potential for dramatic storytelling enhanced by technological innovation.
