Nagbe Urges Police Investigation Following Cletus Noah’s Death
Lenn Eugene Nagbe has requested a police investigation into Cletus Noah’s death, citing serious allegations against him. Noah’s passing has also triggered emotional responses within Liberia’s political community, amid ongoing corruption trials involving former officials.
The recent death of Cletus Noah, a former chief aide to ex-Finance Minister Samuel Tweah, has led to calls for an investigation. Lenn Eugene Nagbe, the Chief of Staff for former President George M. Weah, has formally requested that the Inspector General of Police, Col. Gregory Coleman, conduct a preliminary inquiry into the circumstances surrounding Noah’s unexpected passing on May 4, 2025.
In his letter dated May 8, Nagbe emphasized his concern regarding allegations tying him to Noah’s death. These accusations have emerged amidst an ongoing trial against Tweah, who faces allegations of corruption but has denied any illegal activity during his tenure. Nagbe is particularly troubled as the death of Noah has provoked personal attacks on his character.
Nagbe stated, “I write to formally request a preliminary investigation to establish the existence of foul play, if any, into the recent death of Mr. Cletus Noah.” He highlighted that he received a threatening WhatsApp message from Noah’s brother, Tozo. According to Nagbe, Tozo claimed that he, Tweah, and others were involved in Noah’s death and issued direct personal threats.
The letter also mentions he has provided evidence, including screenshots of the WhatsApp conversation, as proof. Nagbe remarked, “These allegations are both serious and damaging, not only to my reputation but also present a threat to my personal safety and security.” He insists that the Liberia National Police should engage with Tozo to verify the legitimacy of the claims made.
To maintain transparency and to dispel rumors, Nagbe reiterated his request for an investigation. He remarked, “To ensure that the truth is established and to dispel any misinformation or suspicion, I formally request…to determine whether or not there was, in fact, foul play.” Additionally, he has assured the Police of his full cooperation during the investigation process.
Cletus Noah’s sudden death has resonated deeply within Liberia’s political landscape, prompting tributes from countless colleagues, friends, and political figures. His passing at St. Joseph’s Catholic Hospital on May 4 has reverberated through both the opposition and ruling parties, highlighting the somber mood that now surrounds this tragic event.
